Iran Claims Attack on American Facility in the Kingdom of Bahrain, As Part of Widespread Counterattacks.
Iranian forces say they have struck a American military facility in Bahrain, as the country executed strikes throughout the Middle East in retaliation for a significant and ongoing offensive against it by the US and Israel.
Large columns of dark smoke were observed billowing from an area close to the main base of the US Navy's Fifth Fleet in Bahrain's capital, Manama. The full scale of any impact is uncertain and the United States has yet to issue a statement.
Regional Interceptions
In other parts of the Middle East, the UAE, the State of Qatar and Kuwait - all home to American military installations - said they have intercepted missiles in their airspace.
In Doha, the Qatari Ministry of Defence said it had successfully engaged a number of projectiles apparently targeting the Al Udeid Air Base, the biggest US military installation in the Middle East.
Iran's Declared Retaliation
Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) stated it was targeting US bases and assets as part of operation "Truthful Promise 4", in reprisal for the strikes on Iran carried out by the United States and its ally Israel on Saturday morning.
That US-Israeli operation - launched at around 06:15 GMT - has so far struck locations linked to the Tehran's leadership, with US President Donald Trump urging the people of Iran to revolt against the leadership.
Wider Impacts
In Israel, air raid sirens sounded across the country after the Israeli military reported it had identified an barrage of missiles from Iran.
The Ministry of Defence of the United Arab Emirates stated that the country has been subjected to a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".
"Emirati air defenses dealt with the missiles with high efficiency and successfully intercepted a number of missiles," the statement continued.
It said debris fell on a neighborhood in the capital, causing some material damage and the death of one civilian.
The US Air Force is stationed at the Al Dhafra base, south of the Emirati capital, along with the UAE Air Force.
